Deeply Disturbed: "Life on the Street" hosted by Weston Tree Advisory Group

Thursday, April 257:00—9:00 PMCommunity Room Weston Public Library87 School Street, Weston, MA, 02493

Join us for a lecture by Dr. Peter Del Tredici, noted urban ecologist and botanist. Dr. Del Tredici will tackle the issue of street trees, using historical, ecological, and horticultural perspectives to assess the role that trees play in making cities more livable for all their inhabitants. Using this integrated approach, he will cover the myriad of factors that influence the survival of trees in urban and suburban environments, including soil compaction and pollution, tree selection, maintenance, pests and pathogens and, of course, climate.

This talk is free and open to the public. The evening will begin at 6:30 with light refreshments, followed by the lecture at 7:00. Copies of Peter’s book, Wild Urban Plants of the Northeast: A Field Guide, will be available for purchase; there will be a signing table after the lecture.

Dr. Del Tredici has been a long-time, active voice in horticulture, botany, ecology, and landscape architecture. He started his career as a botanist at the Harvard Forest in 1972, moving to the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard in 1979. He taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning; he has lectured widely in the US and Europe, and has authored more than 140 scientific papers and popular articles.
