Based on the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri and directed by Mira Nair, the life journey in this film begins with a calamity. Irrfan Khan and Tabu play Ashoke and Ashima, a Bengali couple who emigrate from Calcutta to suburban New York. Starting a new life in an unfamiliar culture, they acclimate at different speeds and struggle to balance heritage with the expectations of their Americanized children, Gogol and Sonia. As the years pass, they experience a range of victories and setbacks, with their son Gogol coming full circle in his attempts to embrace his Indian legacy.
