The Butler (2013) 132 minutes

In a film based loosely based on the life of Eugene Allen, Forest Whitaker plays Cecil Gaines, a man who survived a harsh upbringing in Jim Crow Georgia and become a butler in the White House. Serving every president from Eisenhower to Reagan, Gaines would be a first-hand observer of history being made, while his own family became caught up in the turbulence of the times.

With an A-Level cast including Oprah Winfrey as Gaine’s wife and Robin Williams, Liev Schrieber, John Cusack, and Alan Rickman playing chief executives who try to make a difference while muddling through events and crises, it is Forest Whitaker who is the soul of the film––a man of tenacious loyalty seeing to the needs of men who often disappoint him.

BE ADVISED --This film is rated PG-13, with smoking, drinking, drug use, nudity, sexuality, and some intense scenes of violence related to the Jim Crow South and the Civil Rights movement.
