Title: Roman Holiday -- as part of both the "Scribes on Screen" and the "Presidents & Potentates" series

ROMAN HOLIDAY (1953), 118 minutes --  PRESIDENTS & POTENTATES  and  SCRIBES ON SCREEN

Starring Audrey Hepburn in the role that launched her career, Roman Holiday could be described as a ‘Mid-20th Century Fairy Tale’ about a visiting princess who flees her numbing formal duties for a few days incognito. She encounters an American reporter played by Gregory Peck, who catches on to her true identity and a possible scoop of a lifetime. The two take in the sights and joys of the Eternal City and their growing feeling for each other makes for a sublime interlude as a reporter’s opportunity and a princess’ obligation melt away.

Directed by William Wyler and with a screenplay co-written by the blacklisted Dalton Trumbo, the film was shot on the streets of Rome and the legendary Cinecittà studios with ethereal results, and is rightly considered one of the best movies of the 1950s if not the whole 20th Century.

BE ADVISED- This film is rated G, with smoking, drinking, brawling, sedation, problematic Vespas in Roman traffic patterns, rather conspicuous agents from an unnamed European country and Eddie Albert dressed like a Beatnik.
