EDIE (2017), 102 minutes
Having spent the past thirty years providing at-home care for an abusive husband, Edie is galled beyond words when her daughter decides it's time to look at a nursing home. Edie instead departs for Scotland, determined to climb the very steep Highland peak Suliven---a trip she once planned to do with her beloved father but was forbidden by her controlling spouse. Now in her eighties and feeling her years, the trek appears to be a delusional venture, but Edie is one determined soul.
If the premise behind this film seems implausible, it should be pointed out that the actress who played Edie, Sheila Hancock, was 83 when she ascended Suliven during production, and our screening will include the short subject, To Climb a Mountain: Behind the Scenes of Edie.
BE ADVISED -- This film is UNRATED, with drinking, profanity, injury, life-threatening situations, loutish Scots involved in ageist bullying, and the extremely hazardous 2398-foot peak of Suliven.
