This film certainly feels like an overlooked gem, written and directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, the team known for some of best films to come out of Britain in the 1940s.

Wendy Hiller plays the very English Joan Webster, who is on her way to marry a tycoon holding court in the Western Isles of Scotland. The vistas she finds are sublime, however the weather is dreadful, keeping her from her last ferry crossing. Waylaid with Roger Livesey, who plays the actual lord of her fiancée’s private island, Joan Webster becomes immersed in a Highland culture that is at turns gallant and quirky, and soon she begins to question where exactly she is going… Not Rated.
