Opera for Everyone: The Italian Girl in Algiers

Monday, November 283:00—4:30 PMCommunity Room Weston Public Library87 School Street, Weston, MA, 02493

Rossini’s operatic farce is gloriously silly. Packed with zinging tunes, it’s a gift to the talented cast in the colorful production of Salzburg’s Whitsun Festival from 2017.

The great Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli took on the role of Isabella to mark the 150th anniversary of Rossini’s death for the first time in her career. And she conquers it with her effervescent energy, charm, skilled presentation, and bubbling way. Rossini is one of her favorite composers.

Speaker: Erika Reitshamer is an engaging teacher whose knowledge and love of opera will inspire all and her open style and sense of humor are irresistible. She has lectured on opera and great singers of opera for many years and was active in the formation of the Boston Lyric Company.
