M. William creates small contemporary oil paintings in a loose realism style, his subjects centering around the familiar and the overlooked.

Mike says of his work "My intentions for this work remain the same as when I began my Small Works series 6 years ago: to paint on a small scale, not spend more than a few days on each piece, and to choose subjects that are simple and, as a fellow painter once said in an interview, "foils for the real subject, which is light." I view these exercises as genuine expressions of the pleasure of seeing and consciously try not to imbue them with anymore than the innate beauty of the subject and the often simple but powerful emotions it has inspired in me. For me they represent placeholders for the stray observations and in-between moments throughout my past when I spotted a flower on the table at a favorite restaurant from years ago or noticed the way the sun fell onto the rug in an apartment I've since moved from. They bring me back to those moments where something often overlooked moved me enough to want to capture it, and when reflecting on them as a collection I feel a sense of peace and gain perspective on my life."

Mike currently works out of Boston.  His work can be viewed at https://mryczek.com
