Exhibit Statement and Bio

"New Horizons" is a collection of works that conveys my recent exploration of collage. This exhibit reflects the people and places that bring me joy as well as the issues that are most important to me – freedom, inclusion, and justice. Each collage is a one-of-a-kind creation, a fusion of my gelli-plate prints, hand-made Japanese washi papers, and a variety of found materials (including letters, cards, photos, maps, and leaves. Some of these works were developed to express an idea or to highlight one of my many passions. Others evolved using a process-oriented approach in which I first selected a few pieces of paper that captured my attention and then added papers one at a time to complement or contrast the adjacent piece.

My study of this medium has been guided and inspired by many contemporary collage artists, including Tara Axford, Sally Hirst, Donna Watson, Kate West, and DT Colter. Their practice and teachings have introduced me to the mysteries, intricacies and diversity of collage-making. Finding the right harmony and balance of colors, textures, and shapes is challenging, but I love the process of experimenting with endless possibilities and finally arriving at a composition that feels just right!

I hope viewers will be intrigued by the varied color palettes and designs, the rich textures, and the depth of content conveyed in these works. My goal is to engage my audience, to bring them closer to the creative processes that led to this collection, and to have them reflect on what gives them joy and purpose.
