Music Concert with Jon Sakata and Jung Mi Lee , Piano Four-Hands

Sunday, March 173:00—4:00 PMCommunity Room Weston Public Library87 School Street, Weston, MA, 02493

The Weston Public Library’s Music Committee is pleased to welcome Jung Mi Lee and Jon Sakata back to the Community Room for another terrific piano four hands performance. Jon and Jung Mi have been among the Concert Series’ most-accomplished and best-loved artists in its 25-year history. They’ve achieved true “rock star” status in the Community Room.

This season will be no exception, as their performance will feature two preludes they’ve arranged for four hands by the early 20th century 'ultra-modernist' Ruth Crawford-Seeger (stepmother of Pete and Peggy Seeger), as well as the incredible slow movement to Mozart's four hands Sonata in F Major, K. 497. They hope that these selections – the hauntingly mystical works by Crawford and the romantic 'evening' aria by Mozart – will create both balance and fascinating connections with Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, a piece which was considered scandalous when it was first performed in Paris with the Ballets Russes in May of 1913, but is now celebrated as one of the most seminal works in modern music.

Jung Mi and Jon are concert pianists and transdisciplinary artists who have performed all over the world. In 2022, they had the honor of being asked by the New England Conservatory to pay concert tribute in Jordan Hall to the late iconic composer and music theorist Robert Cogan.

They have taught on the music faculty at Phillips Exeter Academy since the mid-1990’s.

More biographical and program information will be posted soon on the Music Committee’s webpage at https://www.westonlibrary.org/1526/Music-Committee

The concert is free and open to the public, and the Community Room is handicapped accessible.
