AIC: Drawing Composition - Exploring Image Possibilities

Thursday, March 316:30—9:00 PMWeston AICWeston Art and Innovation Center356 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA, 02493

During this six week-long class, participants explore how the arrangement of line, shape, tonality, texture and space can contribute to the creation of unique and personal works of art.

Starting with direct observation and inquisitive exploration of a range of subjects, participants create a number of drawings using a variety of technical and conceptual approaches to image making. Considering compositional elements such as balance, contrast, focus, rhythm and symmetry/asymmetry, the class constructs images that draw viewers in and encourage their eye to move throughout the picture plane. Instruction focuses on dry media but class participants are invited to bring additional materials of their choice. Throughout the course, participants look at the work of other artists and have group discussions and critiques.

Open to students with some drawing experience and to those who are interested in expanding their painting, collage and printmaking skills.
